Good News for Downtown

The Schoonner Bowdoin is expected to arrive in Summerside on June 11th.  The Bowdoin  homeport is  Castline  Maine, USA and plan to have a two day stay with us.  Master John Worth, says they will have sixteen aboard and  will be exchanging two crew in Port.  Built in 1921 for exploring the Artic waters, is celebrating it’s 85th anniversary this year.  Between 1921 and 1954 she made 26 voyages above the Artic Circle under the command  of explorer Donald B. MacMillan.   Today Bowdoin, the flagship of Maine, serves  the students of Maine Maritime Academy ( MMA), Sail Training Curriculum for the state of  Maine, and New England.   Sparred length is 100 feet, Rig height 70 feet with the power of 190 HP Diesel and a wood hull.  Sailing grounds include New England,  Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia , Newfoundland, Labrabor and Greenland.  Come down to the Pier and make them feel welcome.

Summer Staff

Our summer staff includes Tracy Arsenault who as been hired for 12 weeks to clean up the graffiti. The downtown area has been hit bad with graffiti and is doing something about it.  We hope that once the cleanup is complete we can stamp out the vandalism and motivate a want and a need to keep our buildings clean, presentable, and be proud of their appearances.

We also have Bryan Cameron on a 20 week project and will be working in maintenance. His main duties are keeping the downtown core streets, alleys, sidewalks, and parking lots clean.  Rain or shine Bryan will be there hard at work collecting garbage and disposing of it.  If you see an area we missed please call the office at 436-7546
